Mark cofounded Hammerschlag & Joffe in 1988 after working as a professional engineer both in Canada and South Africa. Mark has been involved throughout his career, in the full spectrum of retail, commercial, industrial, institutional and residential projects, ensuring business orientated, technically appropriate engineering principles are utilized. Mark has carried out the role of President of the practice, assuming all associated responsibilities including business development, client relations, practice management and overall leadership, while continually developing and mentoring younger partners and staff members. Mark graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Ian cofounded Hammerschlag & Joffe in 1988 after working as a consulting engineer both in Canada and South Africa. He has always had a passion for delivering on commercially sensitive technical excellence, using leading edge and proven emerging technologies as appropriate. Ian has been involved in industrial, commercial, retail, residential, and institutional projects throughout his career. He has instilled the principles for recommending needs and solutions to clients, while still ensuring client expectations and requirements are fully met. Stakeholder branding, operational needs, budget and schedule considerations are part of each solution. Prudent, life cycle cost validated, energy efficient, sustainable and healthy building designs have been a focus for all of Ian’s projects. From a leadership perspective, and as a way of giving back, he has continually investigated upcoming industry trends and innovations, and has been involved in training countless co-op students, presenting at technical seminars and assisting on code committees. Ian graduated from the University of Cape Town in Electrical Engineering.

Dan joined Hammerschlag & Joffe in August 2017 to start-up and head the mechanical division after 10 years experience in the consulting engineering industry. Dan became a Partner in 2018. Throughout his career Dan has been involved in a variety of mechanical engineering projects with experience in retail, office, residential, and industrial building mechanical systems. He is proficient in projects of all scales and complexities from small, stand-alone shell spaces to mixed-use high rise tower/developments. The common theme in all of his projects is ensuring client satisfaction from the feasibility stage through to successful construction completion. Dan continually works with his clients to ensure the final product is energy efficient, cost appropriate and in accordance with the client’s expectations. Dan graduated from Queen’s University with first class honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Brad obtained his designation as a Consulting Engineer in 1997. He has consulted on a variety of electrical engineering projects over his career – from concept design through to final completion – with experience in retail, office, residential, data centres, institutional and industrial systems. As a team leader, Brad has design experience in all aspects of electrical engineering including lighting design. Over the years he has received a number of lighting design awards both locally and internationally. His dedication to projects and collaborative approach has led to his continued success. Mike joined Hammerschlag & Joffe in September 2011 as a Senior Electrical Engineer after 9 years experience in the consulting engineering industry. Mike became a partner in 2015. Mike has designed a variety of projects over his career with experience in retail, office, residential, data centres, fibre networks and industrial systems. He has also worked on a number of existing buildings evaluating systems and upgrading electrical infra-structure including high voltage networks and associated distribution equipment. Mike excels at collaboration with utilities for new developments and existing building expansions on behalf of the client to ensure project success from the onset of the development process. He maintains a continual presence throughout all stages of the project and works with his clients to ensure the final product is energy efficient, cost appropriate and in accordance with the client’s expectations. Filip joined Hammerschlag & Joffe in May 2006 as an Electrical Engineer after 3 years’ experience as a Contract Administrator, Site Inspector. While dealing with a variety of electrical site and contract related tasks, he has gained unique perspectives over codes and by-laws, installation and design standards and similar relevant guidelines with experience in retail, office, residential, utility, electrical distribution and industrial systems. He is proficient in projects of all scales and complexities from small, photovoltaic and microgrid generation to high end retail developments. Filip constantly improves his technical abilities and maintains the code standards library while ensuring projects meet the required design standards and scheduled milestones. He continually works with his clients to ensure the final product is sustainable and technically sound while maintaining budgets and delivering on the project’s final intent. Filip graduated from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, major in Industrial Energetics and Automatization and later completed his Masters Degree in Power Electronics.

Cara Sloat brings over 20 years of increasingly complex experience in high-performance mechanical design and energy efficiency expertise to Hammerschlag and Joffe. She has worked extensively with decarbonizing building portfolios, including for Fortune 50 companies, and has worked in high-performance mechanical system design, with a career focus on energy efficiency, energy exchange, and indoor environmental quality. In our current housing crisis, she is also passionate about finding better mechanical solutions for the Canadian housing market. She can help clients explore and understand the full range of available low-energy mechanical systems, and provide nuanced explanations of how these systems interact with other building elements. She delivers projects at every scale, and believes every building deserves a quality and well thought out mechanical system. She has LEED certified over half a million square feet of new construction real estate projects, and provided energy audits for over 5 million square feet of commercial properties, identifying millions in potential energy savings. As an experienced public speaker and communicator, she regularly presents building services engineering topics to groups with varying levels of technical expertise. As part of supporting the HVAC industry and decarbonization efforts in our community, Cara volunteers with ASHRAE Toronto, and sits on the board of Toronto’s 2030 District. Cara has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo (2004) and is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and ASHRAE.

Petar specializes in the design, tendering and contract administration for both new construction projects and retrofits.
